A course in Odijoo can be defined as fully-hosted course
content presented in a series of online modules, topics, lessons and pages.
Users can create interactive online courses using the built-in authoring tool,
or by importing a PowerPoint Presentation. Odijoo courses can incorporate
features such as formatted text, audio narration, video, images and more. Once
a course is created, the content can be offered for sale to other Odijoo users
as a syndicated course, or imported into a classroom and delivered to students.
Creating Online Courses in Odijoo using the Built-in Authoring Tool
The authoring tool is a built-in application in Odijoo,
which allows users to rapidly create interactive, dynamic and fully-hosted
online courses for free. It can be accessed in the Author Course menu. There are five simple steps required to create
an Odijoo course using the Authoring tool:
Step 1: Describe Course – A course name is mandatory and is what distinguishes a course from
others in Odijoo. A course description is not required, but recommended, to
give users an overview of what the course is all about.
Step 2: Choose Template – Odijoo has 12 design templates to choose from, with a variety of
themes to choose from. Choosing one of the 12 course templates is a required
step.
Step 3: Create Outline – The course outline is the instructional design behind the course.
This step gives users a chance to plan out their course and divide it into
modules, topics and lessons. Modules are the top-level sections which define a
course and contained within them, are a series of topics. Within every topic,
are a series of lessons about that topic and within each lesson, are a series
of pages, filled with content. An Odijoo course can contain up to 3 modules,
each having up to 3 topics and those topics can each have up to 3 lessons.
There can be an unlimited number of pages.
Step 4: Manage Content – After an outline is created, it can be filled with course
content. The authoring tool allows users to:
Step 5: Finalize Course – Once a course has been created using the authoring tool, it can be
accessed or modified at any time in Authored
Courses, located in the Author Course
menu. Once a user is satisfied with a course, it can be published into a
classroom and delivered to students for free or for an enrollment price.
Alternatively, the course can be offered for sale to Odijoo users as a
syndicated course, whereby users can purchase the course, turn it into their
own classroom and teach it to their own students.
Creating Online Courses in Odijoo by Importing a PowerPoint Presentation
Users can also create Odijoo courses by creating their own
PowerPoint presentations and uploading them into Odijoo. Odijoo takes the
PowerPoint file and converts it into Odijoo course format, turning it into a
fully-hosted, interactive online course.
The Import PowerPoint feature can be accessed in the Author Course menu. Any PowerPoint
presentation from version 2003 and older can be uploaded and the maximum file
size for uploaded PowerPoints is 100MB. Users who use a newer version of
PowerPoint than 2003, such as 2007, can still upload their PPT files to Odijoo,
so long as they save their PPT file as a 97-03 version PPT file in PowerPoint.
When a PowerPoint is imported into Odijoo, images and text are preserved, but
any animations, videos or audio in the PPT file are stripped out.
Before creating their course, users can specify:
Once a course has been created by importing a
PowerPoint, it can be accessed at any time in Authored Courses, located in the Author Course menu. It cannot however be modified in Odijoo,
because it was created using Microsoft PowerPoint. To modify a course, a user
must modify the PPT file itself and then import that file into Odijoo as a new
Odijoo course. Once a user is satisfied with the course, it can be published
into a classroom and delivered to students for free or for an enrollment price.
Alternatively, the course can be offered for sale to Odijoo users as a
syndicated course, whereby users can purchase the course, turn it into their
own classroom and teach it to their own student.
