Publish Online Courses into Odijoo Classrooms

A classroom in Odijoo can be defined as a space, which contains at least one learning module or course, an administrator, teachers, classroom activities, resources and completion reports (report cards). Odijoo classrooms can be offered to users for free or for an enrollment price. Classroom enrollment can be by invitation only, to a select group of users, or public, whereby the classroom is instantly shared with every Odijoo user in the Odijoo Marketplace.

Components of an Odijoo Classroom

  • Learning module/Course – Content created in Odijoo using the Authoring tool or by importing a PowerPoint presentation.
  • Course Owner – the user who creates a course in Odijoo. The owner is the only user who is able to modify a course’s content and once a course is added to an Odijoo Classroom, the content can no longer be modified for use in that particular that classroom.
  • Classroom Administrator – If a course owner creates a classroom with their course, they become the classroom administrator of that classroom. The administrator is responsible for maintaining the classroom, creating discussion topics and quizzes and inviting students into the classroom to learn. If a classroom generates revenues from enrollment, the classroom administrator is the one who gets paid, after the end of every month. Each classroom can only have one classroom administrator.
  • Teacher(s) – Users who an administrator assigns to teach a classroom. Teachers can create discussion topics and quizzes in a classroom and invite and grade students. By default, the administrator who sets up a classroom is also the teacher of that classroom, but this can be changed. Teachers can be appointed by an administrator, or the administrator can opt to continue to be a teacher and teach the classroom themselves. There is no maximum number of allowed teachers for a particular classroom.
  • Students – Users who learn in a classroom. They can be invited in (Closed enrollment classroom) or can find the classroom in the Marketplace and enroll by themselves (Open enrollment classroom), depending on the classroom’s settings.
  • Classroom Activities – The interactive features that the classroom administrator can add and maintain in a classroom. They are quizzes and discussion boards.
  • Classroom Resources – Uploaded files used to enrich learning, such as job aids or supplementary readings.
  • Completion Reports – The area where administrators and teachers can track their students' progress.

Creating an Odijoo Classroom

Creating an Odijoo classroom may be done by navigating to Classrooms and selecting Create Classrooms from the second level navigation bar.

There are several Classroom settings which must be configured before the Classroom can be created. These are:

  • Classroom Name – A short name (i.e. MATH 101) for the classroom. This field is required.
  • Description – This required field gives users an overview of what the course material is all about.
  • Requirements – Any prior knowledge about a topic which students should already have before enrolling in a classroom.
  • Subject - Describes what the course content is about; over 70 subject matters to choose from.
  • Industry – Describes the industry the course content is centered around; over 40 industries to choose from.
  • Learning Modules – Add a learning module to the classroom by selecting the learning module from the right column and dragging it to the left column. You may add up to five learning modules to a classroom.
  • Start Date – The date when the classroom begins to be administered and taught.
  • End Date – The date when teaching in the classroom ends
  • Enrol Start Date – The date when users can begin registering as students for a classroom.
  • Enrol End Date – The last day users can register as students for a classroom.
  • Cost per Student – The classroom administrator may wish to charge an enrollment price per every user that registers as a student in the classroom. This fee must be paid by the student before they are able to enroll.
  • Enrollment Type – Users who create a classroom can specify if they want enrollment into the classroom to be open (any user can find it in the Marketplace and join) or closed (only users invited by the administrator or teacher to be students can enroll).
  • Available In – Users who create a classroom can specify if they want it to be visible in the Marketplace and/or their Odijoo Campus.
  • Image – A Classroom administrator can upload an image to display as the classroom logo.
  • Role – By default, the Classroom creator is both an administrator and a teacher. You may choose to only be an administrator.

Activities in an Odijoo Classroom

Classroom activities are features of a classroom that allow teachers to interact with their students and students to interact with one another. Such communication ensures multi-directional learning and ultimately results in a richer and more engaging learning experience for students. Both classroom activities, quizzes and discussions, are optional and it is up to a classroom’s administrator and teachers to determine which activities they would like to use in their classroom.

Quizzes in Odijoo classrooms can be multiple choice, true or false or single word. Each question can contain text formatting, tables, links, images, HTML, bullet points and/or numbering. Grade boundaries (i.e. “A+”=90%), passing marks (i.e. Pass=50%) and question and grade feedback (i.e. “Great work!”) are also available and can be set by the quiz creator. A quiz creator can also opt to either include a quiz in a classroom’s completion report (i.e. the grade in the quiz contributes towards the final grade), or make a quiz not count for marks. Other quiz elements include:

  • Title
  • Introduction
  • Date Range – A starting and ending date when the quiz is available for students to complete.
  • Number of attempts Allowed – Can be set to 1, 2 or unlimited.
  • Time Delay Between Attempts – if a quiz has more than one attempt allowed, this determines how long students must wait before being able to retake a quiz .
  • Grading Method – if a quiz has more than one attempt allowed, this determines whether a student’s highest grade, lowest grade, first attempt or last attempt in a quiz is used for determining their final grade in it.

Discussion Topics in Odijoo classrooms are forum-like discussion threads, used to facilitate interaction between students and teachers. Any member of a classroom can start and reply to a discussion topic in that classroom, including students. If they so choose, a teacher can choose to include discussion topics in a classroom’s final grades. Grading a discussion is done manually by a teacher, based on their own subjective criteria.

Resources in Odijoo are files which the administrator or teacher can upload into the classroom. The purpose of these files can range from helping guide students through the classroom (i.e. a course syllabus and teacher introduction) to supplementing students’ learning (i.e. PDF format articles about a topic students can read on their own time). Uploaded files can be of any type and any size and can only be added or deleted by teachers and the classroom’s administrator.

Completion Reports in Odijoo are the report cards which teachers create to grade and track student performance in a classroom. Completion reports can be used to grade quizzes, discussion topics and for setting a final class grade.

  • Quiz Completion Reports – Teachers can view a student’s grades, attempts and any teacher comments, for any particular graded quizzes attempted. Teachers can pass or fail students and leave comments.
  • Discussion Topic Completion Reports – Teachers set their own criteria as to how they want to grade discussions (i.e. quantity of participation vs. quality of participation) and then pass or fail students and leave comments about their discussion activities.
  • Final Grade Completion Reports – Teachers can pass or fail students for a course.
  • Classroom Review – Teachers can select a quiz or select a discussion topic and view the entire classroom’s (every single student) median grade, average grade, max # of attempts and grading method.
